Toyota Prius Sales Stopped for Parking-Brake Recall

Bad news !!! Toyota is recalling 91,585 Prius hybrids in the USA for parking brakes that may fail to engage, according to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The issue also has triggered a stop-sale for the popular hybrid.

The 2016 and 2017 Prius have a foot-operated parking brake with a tension cable that may detach from the rear brake calipers. Toyota first discovered the problem in May after a U.S. dealer reported the failure. Since then, Toyota has received at least 67 reports of parking-brake cable detachments but no injuries or accidents. Toyota said the cable is particularly prone to loosening over bumps in the road. The Prius C, Prius V, plug-in Prius Prime, and other Toyota and Lexus models do not share the same cable assembly, Toyota said.

About 19,500 of these Prius models are in dealer inventory and cannot be sold until they’re repaired. Dealers will install a clip at one end of the parking-brake cable to secure it to the rear calipers. Repairs are not expected to begin until December.

Not sure Toyota Lanka had made this announcement to their customers tin Sri Lanka. And also the users who got directly imported will not be benefited freely if Toyota Lanka is executing such a repair plan.
