Maruti to decide on starting assembly unit in Sri Lanka

The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) will take a final decision on setting up an assembly unit in Sri Lanka by the end of the current financial year. The facility, if commissioned, would be the first facility for the small car giant outside its home base in India.

‘Budget Taxi’, Sri Lanka’s taxi service provider affiliated to the All Island Three-Wheeler Drivers Union, has joined up with Associated Motorways PLC (AMW) to introduce a white coloured Maruti Suzuki Alto cab service in parallel to their existing Tata Nano taxis, officials of the company, said.

With the budget 2013, prices of small cars may go up by 200,000 and trucks by about 400,000, and three wheelers by about 25,000 following tax changes announced in the budget, industry officials said.
