Chinese carmaker Geely is expected to invest 2.5 billion yuan (398 million U.S. dollars) to build its largest powertrain manufacturing center in the coastal city of Ningbo, according to an agreement signed between Geely and the local government on Thursday, 14 March 2013.

Chinese media reported recently on a huge investment plan by First Auto Works, or FAW. Total investment in research and development over the next 5 years is 35.5 billion yuan or 5.7 billion USD. The ailing Hongqi (Red Flag) brand is the biggest benefactor with 10.5 billion yuan, showing that FAW is serious about resurrecting the once-famous brand.

Chinese drivers who don’t like to wear a safety belt can now buy an innovative ‘safety belt T-shirt’, priced between 35 (SLR 700/=) yuan and 50 yuan (SLR 1,000/=) in various online shops. Chinese police is more alert on safety belts after a few high profile accidents where occupants were launched trough car windows and ended up very dead. The penalty for not wearing a safety belt is 50 yuan (SLR 1,000/=) and a deduction of two points, out of 12, of the driver’s license. (Which is not yet happening in Sri Lanka)

Mercedes-Benz has finally dropped full details on its insane G63 AMG 6×6. The machine puts 544 horsepower to all six wheels thanks to a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8. A seven-speed gearbox shuttles power to the ground via three sets of portal axles, which helps give this machine a full 15.75 inches of ground clearance. By comparison, the standard G63 AMG sits with just 8.27 inches of ground clearance. The extra lift allows this 6×6 to ford nearly 40 inches of water and run massive 37-inch tires. All told, there are five differential locks on this thing, all controlled by a special “locking logic” that provides the best traction possible for any given situation.
